Navrachana School, Vadodara, lifts CCCC 2016 trophy
NPS, Bengaluru, and SES Gurukul, Pune, clinch 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively

Finger on the buzzer, Amar Mishra and Prem Thilak of Navrachana School, Vadodara, were first with the answer: ‘discount’. Their explanation too was bang on:
DISCOUNT = rebate;
DISCO = dancing destination,
NT = highest bid (in bridge – No Trump)
Their shining brilliance got their school the National Crossword Champion trophy at the three-day Grand Finale of the national-level inter-school CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC) 2016. Coming close on their heels, missing this clue and 10 points in the buzzer round, were Aditi Kaul and Neha Cherian of NPS, Bangalore. The third spot was taken by Onkar Joshi and Rajlaxami Chavan of SES Gurukul, Pune.
The Grand Finale was held from December 5 to 7, 2016 at the Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 Auditorium, Delhi Cantt.
The four-stage final was fiercely fought by 34 brightest school teams from across the country. The preliminary round saw 24 teams moving forward to the 8 Quarter Finals of three teams each. The eight winning teams and the best losing team (one with the highest points from among the remaining 16), made it to the 3 Semi Finals of three teams each. The three winning teams then fought it out in a contest which went down to the wires.
The prizes to the top three teams were handed over by Mr Santosh Mall, Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan; Mr A K Ambastha, Chief Vigilance Officer, ONGC; and Mr Abhay Singh, CCA Telecom, West Bengal.
