The CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC) 2016, is a CBSE challenge initiated for students studying in classes IX to XII, to be coordinated by Extra-C. The contest would be conducted in two phases.

General Rules

City Round: April-August

Schools located in the vicinity of the designated city may also participate. Teams consisting of two students solve a written cryptic crossword puzzle in 60 minutes. The winner and the first runner- up teams will receive certificates and prizes.

National Round: New Delhi.

The quarter final: A written cryptic crossword puzzle to be solved in 30 minutes. 8 teams representing each CBSE region, along with 8 other highest ranking teams will qualify for the semi-final.

The semi-final: The 16 qualifying teams, placed in 4 groups of four Teams each will participate in four separate, on- stage cryptic crossword contests of 60 minutes based on in a power-point format.

The final: A two-day event.

Day 01: The qualifying teams of the semi-final rounds will participate in the quarter final.

Day 02: Qualifying teams of the second quarter final will participate in the two semi-finals and qualify for the Final Round.


Second class rail fare for two students and one school escort will be reimbursed to the teams competing in the National Round.

Prizes & Recognition

National Winners: Prizes worth Rs. 25000 each, trophies and certificates

National Runners-up: Prizes worth Rs. 15000 each, trophies and certificates

National Finalists (3rd and 4th): Prizes worth Rs. 10,000 each, trophies and certificates

City Round Winners: Trophies and certificates

All participants will receive certificates.

How can a school participate in CCCC 2016?

The registration of schools for participation can be done on crypticsingh.com. Interested schools can register till 17th April, 2016.
